Let’s Hear it for The Girls!

Mini performance players Isla Hignett and Tillie Reid had some great results in tournaments played over the festive season.

Hignett finished as 10 and under Girls singles runner-up in the Grade 5 Surrey Junior Tournament held at the Weybridge Tennis Academy.  She won four of her five matches in the round robin event beating Killai Parameswaran 4-0, Andrea Barna 4-0, Amelia Howie 4-2 and Madeline Alcock 4-1. She lost to overall winner Angelina Ivanyuzhenkov in a close match 5-4 to finish in second place and take home a medal.


In the Whitehorse Grade 4 Indoor winter Tennis Series held in Oxford, Hignett played six matches in the round robin event and again finished in the very respectable runner’s up position. Competing in the 10 and under Girls Singles competition she won five matches defeating Sofia Wise 4-0, Diana Mascenikova 4-1, Jasmine Spurgeon 4-0, Bethan Miles 4-0 and Alice Hodges 4-0. She lost to tournament winner Sarah Costa 4-2 and went home with a trophy for second place as pictured above.

Reid competed in the 9 and under Mixed singles at the Caversham County Tournament. She played three matches beating Darcy Herring Johnson 7-2, 7-2 in the quarterfinals followed by Finley Corcoran in the semi-finals 7-2, 7-1. She then lost in the final to David John Mentiply 7-2, 8-6 to finish up in the runners-up spot.


In the Southampton Christmas Tournament 9 and under Girls Singles event held at the David Lloyd Club, Reid finished in fourth place overall. She defeated Hazel Vernon in the first round 9-7, 8-6 and then Natalie Bell 4-7, 7-5, 9-7 in the quarter finals to find herself up against Eva Lancaster who beat her 8-6, 7-3 in the semi-finals and went on to win the event. In the third/fourth place playoff Reid lost to Jasmine Conway 8-6, 7-5
