World Tennis News: Murray Magic

British number one Andy Murray made short work of his match against Jo Wilfried-Tsonga and will now face top seed Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals of the US Open later today. Eighth seed Murray defeated ninth seed Tsonga in straight seeds 7-5, 7-5, 6-4 giving fans hope that he may be back in top form.

Murray will play Djokovic tonight (Thursday 2:00am BST) in their twenty-first meeting and a re-run of the 2012 US Open final which Murray won, but overall Djokovic is winning their head-to-head 12 – 8 matches. Also in the last eight in the Men’s draw are Stanilas Wawrinka vs. Kei Nishivori, Tomas Berdych vs. Marin Cilic and Gael Monfils against Roger Federer.

In the Woman’s draw, Shuai Peng beat Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-1 and Caroline Wozniacki defeated Sara Errani 6-0, 6-1 to book their places in the semi-finals. In the other quarter-finals later today will see top seed Serena Williams faces Flavia Pennetta and Victoria Azarenka will play Ekaterina Makarova.

Hampshire Court September Programme

The Totally Tennis new Junior Squad term starts at Hampshire Court from 4th September onwards and sessions will run for 15 weeks (except Thursday Tots which is 16 weeks). The Totally Tennis junior coaching programme at Hampshire Court is designed to give young players the opportunity to take their first steps into learning mini tennis, whilst older players can join the junior squads.

The following termly squads will run from September until December and will cost £105 per child for the term payable in advance.

Pirates (Red Mini Tennis)

Pirates is for juniors aged between 4-8 that have little or no tennis experience. The sessions run on a red mini tennis court and will provide players with a sound knowledge of simple moving, hitting, throwing and catching, and basic racket skills.

Monday 4:30 – 5:30pm (8th September – 15th December)

Red Squad (Invitational only)

Coach Shyam will invite selected players for this squad.

Friday 4:00 – 5:00pm (5th September – 12th December)

Dodgers (Orange Mini Tennis)

Dodgers Squad is for beginners and improvers aged 8-10. Players continue to develop their Fundamental tennis skills, and work on improving their rallying, serving and games and competition using orange mini tennis.

Saturday 10:30 – 11:30am (6th September – 13th December)

Monday 5:30 – 6:30pm (8th September -15th December)

Junior 11+

Saturday 11:30am – 1:00pm (6th September – 13th December)

Pay and Play Sessions

Tots (Age 3-4)

Tots tennis is a great way for children to begin playing tennis. With a splash of colour on the courts and our enthusiastic coaches, the players will work on their hand – eye coordination, sending and receiving skills as well as the basic of tennis. All this will be taught within fun filled games to spark your child’s imagination.

£5 per session

Monday 3:45 – 4:30pm (8th September – 15th December)

Thursday 2:00 – 2:45pm (4th September – 18th December)

All Hampshire Court Junior members get Free Friday Night Tennis Session at 5pm.
