Hignett Wins Half Term Tournament

Totally Tennis performance player and tournament top seed Liam Hignett won the 16 and under Boys Singles Grade 4 event in the A & A Business Supplies Thornden Junior Open held at Thornden Tennis Club in Chandlers Ford this week. image1 After a bye in the first round, Hignett beat Peter Borodicz 4-0, 4-0 in the quarter-finals and in the semis he beat third seed Max Holland 6-2, 6-0. Fellow finalist unseeded William Thompson defeated fourth seed Harry Dunnett in the quarters and then second seed Harry Neate in the semis. Hignett beat Thompson in the final 6-1, 6-0 to win the event. Congrats Liam 😉

Head coach James McIntosh said “Liam did really well to win the tournament at Thornden. He was the number 1 seed and did well not to drop a set throughout the match.


Younger sister Isla was due to compete in the 12 and under girls but as it was cancelled due to insufficient players so she played in the 14 and under event, even though she is just eleven. After a bye in round one, Hignett played the higher rated second seed in the semi-finals, playing really well winning the first set 5-4 ( 7-4) but losing the second 5-3 and then losind the ten point tie break decider 10-1. Hignett finished fourth after losing the third/fourth playoff match 4-0, 4-1 against Magda Kornijczuk.
