Totally Tennis mini performance player Aaron Dawson Competed in the Grade 2 Scottish Junior Open Championships 10 and under Boys singles tournament last weekend held at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre in Glasgow on the eve of Wimbledon, finishing a fantastic third overall.
The weekend long event commenced on Saturday with the Group matches to qualify for the main draw. Dawson won Group C defeating Sean Neveling 4-1, 5-4 (2) and Scottish number one Euan Mackenzie 4-2 4-1 followed by a main draw first round match against Daniel Agranovsky 4-1, 4-2. He then won the third/fourth play-off match against former box opponent Mackenzie 4-0, 4-1 to finish in their place overall.
Dawson’s mum Lisa commented, “Aaron played some great tennis and did not drop a set until the semi-finals where he came up against the number one seed and then he only narrowly missed out on taking the match to a championship tie-break.” she added “In the third/fourth play-off match he beat the Scottish No.1 for the second time during the weekend. A successful weekend followed by a very long late night drive home.”
Head Coach James McIntosh said, “It’s such a great achievement for Aaron to come 3rd in a National Event, his best result so far. He has worked really hard to get to this level and this result should see him qualify for the Grade 1 competition in August. Well done Aaron.”
