This year’s annual Secondary schools tournament took place at the beginning of this month at the indoor centre with three schools Brighton Hill Community College, Costello Technology College and The Hurst entering teams in the Year 7 and 8 singles and doubles and the same two events for Year 9 and10 players, all run by coach Simon James.
The Year 7 and 8 singles winner was Totally Tennis’ own performance player Harry Feast from Costello who beat Owen Robinson in the all Costello final. The boys then teamed up to give Costello their second trophy of the day in the doubles defeating the a mixed team of Elodie Dougal (Costello, also the only girl who attended) and Costas Bowgen (Hurst).
Head Coach James McIntosh said, “These two were not playing doubles but they both had no partner they teamed up despite being from different schools.”
In the Year 9 and 10 singles event another Totally Tennis’ Travis Clayton who was representing Brighton Hill won the event beating Costello’s Alex Gray in the final. Clayton also won the doubles title with partner Sam Hayes after defeating Josh Goldring and Deema Bowgen from The Hurst in the final, who are also both Totally Tennis squad players.
McIntosh added, “Another great event with some excellent competitive play. It’s always good to see our squad players using their skills to represent their respective schools. I hope that next year more schools take up the opportunity to enter.”
