World number one Novak Djokovic won his second US Open and tenth Grand Slam title after beating old rival Roger Federer in the final held at Flushing Meadows that was initially delayed three hours because of rain. Djokovic won the title in four sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to finish this years tennis Grand Slam calendar winning an impressive three of the four tennis major titles. Men’s doubles champions were twelfth seeds Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut from France who beat Jamie Murray and John Peers 6-4, 6-4.
In the women’s event, Italian Flavia Pennetta defeated fellow Italian Roberta Vinci in the women’s singles final and then retired from professional tennis.
Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza beat fourth seeds Casey Dellacqua/Yaroslava Shvedova in 6-3, 6-3 the final. Fourth seed Hingis also won the Mixed Doubles title with partner Leander Paes beating unseeded USA’s pairing Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sam Querrey 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
