As the world’s top tennis players prepared for this year’s Wimbledon fortnight playing on the famous grass courts at SW19, the young players at Totally Tennis competed in their own Grand Slam event, the TT Tour Wimbledon last Sunday on the eve of this year’s much anticipated Championships.
With a 1,000 Grand Slam event points up for grabs there was always lots to play for besides being declared the winner. In the Orange event, Hayden Cummings played really well to win all his matches making it three consecutive TT Tour wins in a row, Daniel Ward was in second place again this month and Carmen Visuals finished in third position. Megan Fisher, Henry Terry, Dinobi Okafor, Thorsten Richter and Rutendo Mufiri ranked from fourth to eighth respectively.
Daniel Shattock was the Green event winner with Fechi Okafor finishing as runner-up and third place going to Tinuke Adelakun. Last month’s winner Chi Chi Okafor was fourth, Dylan Jones fifth, sixth place went to Jack Morita, Diego Visuals and Mikun Adeniran were seventh and eighth overall.
Andrew Dingwall who ran the event said, “A special well done to Megan Fisher and Henry Terry for playing in their first ever orange event, they played some very good tennis that helped Megan reach the semi-final. Congrats to Hayden Cummings for winning the orange event.” he added “A very competitive green event contained a host of marathon matches with some of them going to a deciding tiebreak. Congratulations to Daniel Shattock for winning this event. Overall a very successful day of tennis!“
The Totally Tennis Tour is for Development Squads and Mini Performance Squads players. There are six tournaments throughout the year and then the Grand Final where the top eight players from each squad will be invited back to play for the chance to finish as the club champions. There will be an up to date leaderboard showing players rankings in each squad. Points are awarded to the winner, runner-up and third/fourth place players for each event as well as for entering. The Grand Slam events of the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open offer higher points and all points will be added to each age group leaderboard.
