It’s the Men’s turn to compete in the second week of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships being held at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium until 4th March. Last week the ladies were in action with seventh seed Elina Svitolina crowned the winner after she beat tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki in the final.
Recently crowned Australian Open champion, Roger Federer was looking to secure his eighth Dubai title but he suffered a shock defeat yesterday by Russian qualifier Evgeny Donskoy in their second round encounter. Donskoy, who is ranked 116 in the world beat Federer 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5) to progress to the next round.
World number one and British number one Andy Murray is back on court after losing in the fourth round of the Grand Slam in Melbourne and recovering from a bout of shingles. Murray, who is top seed, defeated Tunisian Malek Jaziri 6-4, 6-1 and then Guillermo Garcia-Lopez from Spain 6-2, 6-0 and will now face German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarter finals
Second seed Stanilsas Wawrinka also made an early exit with another shock defeat by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Damir Dzumhur 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Joing Murray, Kohlschreiber, Dzumhur and Donskoy in the final eight are fourth seed Gael Monfils, seventh seed Lucas Pouill, Fernando Verdasco and Robin Haase. These matches will take place later today, teh semi-finals tomorrow and the final on Saturday.
