Totally Tennis performance player and Sherfield School tennis scholar Dean Cooper Kirby recently won the 14 & under Boys Winchester Spring Open 2017 title. After a bye in the first round, Cooper Kirby beat Christian Yeates 6-1, 6-1 in round two followed by Louis Bowden 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 in the quarters and then Joshua Parsons in the semis 4-6, 6-4, 10-5, he then defeated Oliver Fernandez 6-0, 6-2 in the final.
Cooper Kirby and partner Ayaan Haneef then won the 14 & U Doubles title beating clubmate Aaron Dawson/Louis Bowden 4-1, 4-1 in the semis and James Johnson/Alexis Paris in the final 5-3, 4-0.
In the Easter Grade 4 Tournament at Kings House, Chiswick Cooper Kirby won the 18 & U singles titles and was runner-up in the 16 & U event. In the first round of the 16 & U competition he defeated Alexander Pennycooke 4-1, 4-1 followed by wins against Bailey Mcatee 4-3, 4-0 and Warok Rai 4-2, 4-1 but he finished up in second place after losing in the final against Nicolas Sperat Czar 4-3, 4-0. In the 18U’s Cooper Kirby beat Adam Wilkinson 4-1, 4-2 in the quarters and then beat Laurence Woodford 4-0, 4-2 in the semis. In the final he defeated Mathieu Betto 5-3, 4-2 to win the event.
Cooper Kirby is also part of the Sherfield School sixth form team that has won the Hampshire/Dorset/Wiltshire knockout stage of the Glanville Cup. The team has now qualified for the National Finals that will be played at Nottingham Tennis Centre from 11th – 14th July.
