Hignett wins Champion of Doubles Champions 2017

Totally Tennis performance player and Sherfield School Tennis Scholar Liam Hignett won the Men’s Hampshire & IOW Champion of Doubles Champions 2017 with partner Jake Norris in Southampton.

In the first round the pair, who were top seeds and representing Warsash Tennis Club, won all their matches in the group stages. They beat Adrian Allsopp and Chris Titterington 4-0, 4-0 followed by Aaronn Blackman and Scott Salway 4-2, 4-2, and Henry and Tom Forsyth 4-0, 4-0. In the main draw they defeated Jonathan Clift and Harry Wilmott-Stanton 4-2, 4-2 and Chris Bixley and Jake Macey 4-1, 5-3 to win the title.

Silver Medal for Gevin in Buckinghamshire

Totally Tennis mini tennis player Gevin Chendhilkumar was runner-up in the Tennace at Gxltc Red Orange Starter Red 9 & under mixed singles tournament held at the Gerrard’s Cross Lawn Tennis Club in Buckinghamshire.

20170917_151235In the first round Gevin defeated Sofia Escobar Daantje 10-2 followed by fergus Baxter 10-8 in the quarters and then beat Ansh Annareddy in the semi-finals 10-5. Sadly he lost in the final against Max Durkin 10-7 to finish in the runner-up position and collect the silver medal.

Twin brother Guhan also competed in the event winning his first match against Neve Bushell 10-3 before losing in the quarter final against Joshua Fienberg 10-6. He then defeated James Matthew Stokes 10-1 in his first play-off match and finished 6th overall after losing to Fergus Baxter 10-7 in his second match.

Jubin and Catlin Win Local Mixed Doubles Title

Totally Tennis coaches Ben Jubin and Steph Catlin resurrected their successful mixed doubles partnership and won another trophy. The former National Mixed Doubles champions won the Basingstoke & District Tennis League Mixed Doubles title beating Chris Harrolds and Clare Munns in the final played at Beechdown 6-2, 6-4.

In previous rounds Jubin/Catlin beat Totally Tennis players (and Jubin’s uncle) Rex Groves  and his partner Sharon DeBott 6-2, 6-1. Fellow Totally Tennis duo Tim Rice and Emma Barnes also played in the competition.

 

 

Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Totally Tennis on Friday 29th September

Totally Tennis will be hosting their annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September at the Mixed Morning Tennis session from 10:00am to 11.30am.

Regular players are encouraged to bring their friends and enjoy the tennis session from 10:00 that will be followed by coffee and cake (non-players are welcomed for coffee and cake too) at 11:30am to support the charity that helps people facing cancer and their families. Coffee and cake will also be served in the pavilion from 4:30pm during junior squads. Any budding bakers wishing to bake and donate a cake to the event will be greatly appreciated.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in association with M & S is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People all over the UK host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan, in 2016 £29.5 million was raised and this year they are aiming to raise even more.

Third Place for Gevin at Bradfield

Totally Tennis mini tennis player Gevin Chendhilkumar came third in the 9 & under Mixed Singles at last weekend’s Bradfield Orange tournament held at the Bradfield Tennis Centre.

In the initial round robin Gevin competed in Group C winning two of of his three matches to finish as runner-up and progress to the main draw. He beat third seed Sienna Minton 10-5,  Zayn Bellazrak 10-2 but lost to Ruby Marriage 10-6. Twin brother Guhan was playing in Group A where he beat Joshua Date 10-4, had a walkover against  O’Nielle Emanuel and was beaten by top seed Gabriel Riminton 10-7.

In the main draw Gevin was also defeated by eventual winner Riminton in the semis 10-3 but won the third/fourth play deciding match beating Marriage 10-6 to finish in third place overall.

Amazing success for Totally Tennis players at Junior County Championships

Totally Tennis performance players are celebrating after a very successful week at this year’s Hampshire & IOW Junior County Championships 2017 held at the Winchester Racquets And Fitness club last week.

Dean Cooper Kirby won an impressive four titles; the 14 & under Boys Singles, the 16 & under Boys Singles as well as both the 14 & under and 16 & under Doubles titles with partner Alfie Reynolds. Fellow Sherfield School tennis scholars Liam Hignett and Daniel Prickett were also winners; Hignett won three titles and was crowned Men’s singles champion, 18 & under Boys singles champion and the 18 & under Boys doubles title with partner Jake Norris. Prickett won the 12 & under Boys Singles event and was also runner-up to Cooper Kirby in the 14 & under Boys Singles.

Isla Hignett was runner-up in the 16 & under Girls Singles after losing to Magda Kornijczuk in the final 6-0, 6-1, Kornijczuk had also beaten clubmate Jasmin Bromilow in the semis 6-0, 6-1. Kirsty Da Silva won the 14 & under consolation final and Hignett and clubmate Tillie Reid were third in the 14 & under Girls Doubles after beating Da Silva and Bromilow in the playoff match 4-0, 4-0. In his first green tournament Dylan Cooper Kirby was third in the 10 & under Boys Doubles with partner Ami Talpallikar. Harry Feast won the 14 & under Boys singles consolation final beating Leo Gamon 6-1, 6-4.
