The annual award, which the club have been finalists for fifteen consecutive years and last won in 2004, will be part one of the many awards that will be presented by Basingstoke Sports Council chairman Kevin Laing at the Apollo Hotel, Basingstoke on Friday 23rd February.
Alongside the host of awards that celebrate local sportsmen, women and clubs there will be the presentation of grant aid cheques and sports scholarships via the Sports Grant Aid scheme, which is funded by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The funds can be used to help with everything from travelling and coaching expenses to competition entry fees, equipment and clothing requirements. In addition some of the Basingstoke finalists will go forward to the county awards.
A panel of six independent judges reviewed and ranked all applications for the 2017 Sports Awards and decisions have now been made it to the final stages, a tough process with such high standard and commitment from many local nominees. Laing said by e-mail of the club’s nomination, “May I take this opportunity to personally congratulate you on your effort and achievements within the local sporting community.” he added “Best wishes for a very successful 2018 and I look forward to seeing you next month at our prestigious local Sports awards.“
Totally Tennis will be competing for the prestigious accolade against eight other local clubs; Basingstoke and Mid Hants Athletics Club, Basingstoke Gymnastic Club, Basingstoke Ice Hockey Development Club, Basingstoke Kickboxing Organisaton, Basingstoke School of Martial Arts, Bluewave (Taekwondo), Rising Phoenix Cheer and Wessex Wyvern Modern Pentathlon Club.
