Cooper Kirby Wins Florida Tournament

Performance player and Sherfield School Tennis Scholar Dean Cooper Kirby has got his month’s training in Florida at the Gomez Tennis Academy off to a good start by winning the Naples Spring Tropical Junior Level 6 tournament held at the Arthur Allen Tennis Center at Cambier Park, Naples.

IMG-20180327-WA0003Despite the 27 degree heat and playing on clay Cooper Kirby won the Boys 14 Singles title knocking out the top three seeds in the process. In the first round he beat Christopher Cucinella 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated top seed Emilio Sanchez 6-1, 6-2 in the quarters followed by third seed Kaj Quirijns 6-3, 6-2 in the semis. In the final he beat second seed Michael Gurgenidze 6-0, 6-0 to win his first American title.

Brian, Dean’s father said, “Dean is really enjoying his six hours a day training and the opportunity to visit Miami with his fellow academy players to watch the Miami Open.”
