It was another TT Tour win for junior squad player Tobi Adeniran at last weekend’s Australian Open event.
In the group stages Adeniran won Box 1 after winning all his five matches, he beat Lewis Gambrill 10-6, Dylan Mills 10-4, Vihaan Juvadi 10-3, Maximus Perez-Lockley 10-2 and Thomas Hartley 10-1. Mills won four matches and finished as was runner-up, he defeated Gambrill 10-8, Juvadi 10-7, Perez-Lockley 10-2 and Hartley 10-1.
Gabriella Dyer and Carter Grout were joint winners of Box 2 with each of them winning four matches. Dyer beat Shriham Chakraborty 10-7, Freddie Stokes 10-5, Shauna Rana 10-7 and Grout 10-3. Grout scored 10-9 wins against Shrayan Subash, Chakraborty and defeated Rana 10-8.
In the semi finals Adeniran beat Grout 10-3 and Dyer defeated Mills 10-7. The final saw Adeniran beat Dyer 10-4 to claim his first TT Tour victory of 2020.
Coach Loic Armstrong who ran the event said, “Another fantastic turnout and a great display from all the players to start the year. This month the players were much more competent with their scoring and serving from side to side. It was great to see that they communicated together really well and played fairly.” he added, “As well as the quality of their tennis, their confidence is growing each month.
