More Medals for Kirsty

Totally Tennis mini performance player Kirsty Da Silva has added two more gold medals to her ever growing collection. Da Silva picked up her first medial for winning the 10 and under Hampshire & Isle of Wight LTA County Leaderboard for the Winter season with 355 points, club mate Melissa Toner finished in fifth place with 75 points.

Kirsty double goldTop seed Da Silva then won her second medal competing in her first 12 and under tournament at the King’s College, Wimbledon Open tournament 2016 in London. The event was played in a round robin format and Da Silva won all of her three matches beating Alice O’Brien, Daniella Townsend and second seed Alisa Maletkovic to be declared the overall winner and receive the gold medal.

Second Place for Da Silva

Young mini performance player Kirsty Da Silva finished in second place today at the Grade 4 10 and U Girls Indoor Winter County tournament held at the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre, Oxfordshire.

Starting her New Year in very good form Da Silva played four matches in the group stages, winning Box B convincingly. She beat Florence Haigh 4-0,  Molly Hulcup 4-0, Darcy Herring Johnson 4-3(2) and Lois Newberry 4-2 to finish at the top of the box and progress to the main draw.

She continued her strong display dispensing with her semi final opponent Katie Baker 4-0, 4-3(0) to reach final. Unfortunately she then came up against a very strong opponent and Group A winner Patricia Radan who won the final with a flourish 4-0, 4-0, even though the scoreline may not reflect it Da Silva played extremely well and started 2016 with a well-deserved runners-up medal, congratulations Kirsty!

Runner-up Reid

Mini performance player Tillie Reid was runner-up in the Grade 4 Haslemere girls Under 12 tournament held at the Haslemere Lawn Tennis Club in Surrey. She won her quarter-final match against Molly Fairbalm 6-1, 6-0 and then defeated Lucy Peer 6-1, 5-7, 10-8 in the semis before losing in the final against Charlotte Howard 6-1, 6-0 to finish in second place. Congrats Tillie 😉


In the recent 30th Eastleigh Open held at Virgin Active Hampshire Health And Racquets Club in Southampton Reid and club mate Isla Hignett competed in the 12 and under Girls Grade 3 singles event. Both girls had a bye in the first round and were knocked out in the quarter finals, Hignett losing to eventual runner-up Chloe Elliott 6-1, 6-0 and Mia Gerty beat Reid 6-2, 6-0. The girls then competed against each other in the consolation final with Hignett winning 4-0, 4-0.

Dawson Finishes Third in Glasgow

Totally Tennis mini performance player Aaron Dawson Competed in the Grade 2 Scottish Junior Open Championships 10 and under Boys singles tournament last weekend held at Scotstoun Community Indoor Tennis Centre in Glasgow on the eve of Wimbledon, finishing a fantastic third overall.

Aaron Scottish Junior Open 10UThe weekend long event commenced on Saturday with the Group matches to qualify for the main draw. Dawson won Group C defeating Sean Neveling 4-1, 5-4 (2) and Scottish number one Euan Mackenzie 4-2 4-1 followed by a main draw first round match against Daniel Agranovsky 4-1, 4-2. On Sunday he beat Matthew Pickering 4-0, 4-0 in the quarter-finals but lost in the semi-final to top seed J’Quon D-Richards 4-2, 5-4(2). He then won the third/fourth play-off match against former box opponent Mackenzie 4-0, 4-1 to finish in their place overall.

Dawson’s mum Lisa commented, “Aaron played some great tennis and did not drop a set until the semi-finals where he came up against the number one seed and then he only narrowly missed out on taking the match to a championship tie-break.” she added “In the third/fourth play-off match he beat the Scottish No.1 for the second time during the weekend. A successful weekend followed by a very long late night drive home.

Head Coach James McIntosh said, “It’s such a great achievement for Aaron to come 3rd in a National Event, his best result so far. He has worked really hard to get to this level and this result should see him qualify for the Grade 1 competition in August. Well done Aaron.”

Tillie Wins Again

Mini performance player Tillie Reid won the Girls 14 and under event at GDT Slough tournament last weekend. After a bye in the quarter finals, Reid beat Kyla Haslett-Hawkins 4-2, 5-4(7) in the semis and then battled to defeat Alexandra Stoop in the final 4-2, 2-4, [10-3] and be declared the overall winner.


Sherfield School Tennis scholar Reid had more success when representing the school at The Independent Sporting Association (ISA) girls U13 at the National Tennis Centre where she won her event, both she and school were very proud!

Dawson Competes in National Events

Mini Performance Player Aaron Dawson competed in the 10 and under Boys Singles Grade 2 (National) Notts Junior Open tournament supported by Porsche Centre Nottingham played at the Nottingham Tennis Centre last month. In the group stages, Dawson came second in Group D beating Rory Marles 4-1, 4-2 but losing to group winner Jay Davey 4-2, 5-4(2). Playing on the clay courts for the main draw matches, Dawson beat William Burridge 4-2, 4-1 then lost in the quarter-finals against Theodore Purkis 4-1, 4-0. In the play-offs he beat Alexander Okonkwo 4-2, 4-2 to finish in sixth place overall.


During May half term, Dawson competed in the Herts Summer National (Grade 2) Tournament held at Queenswood School in Hatfield. Playing in Boys 10 and under singles event, he competed in Group A where he beat William Cheer 4-2, 5-3 but lost to eventual winner J’Quon Duvall-Richards 4-0, 5-4(4). He progressed to the main compass draw where he defeated Alexander Okonkwo winning the third set tie-break 5-3, 04, 1-0(7) but then lost in the quarter finals against Anthony Wright 4-1, 4-1. He then beat Oliver Evans 5-4 (1), 5-3 and Benjamin Johnson 4-0, 4-1 to finish in a very respectable fifth place.

Head coach James McIntosh said “Aaron has done so well to make the quarter finals in his last 3 Grade 2 national events. He has worked hard in his lessons to keep on improving in all areas of his game so it is great to see him making progress at each tournament he plays.” he added,  “A 5th place finish in a tournament amongst the best players in the country at his age group is an excellent achievement. Well done Aaron, keep up the good work.”

Winter County Leaderboard Successes

Totally Tennis were well placed across the age groups in the final placings of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight 2014/15 Winter Leaderboards with four winners, two runners-up and lots of other players finishing in top ten positions.

Mini performance player and Sherfield School Tennis scholar Kirsty Da Silva (pictured below) topped the Girls 9 and under leaderboard with 400 points and earned herself a gold medal in the process. Fellow club players Melissa Toner and Amberly Chapman joined her on the board in third and sixth place respectively. In the Boys 9 and under leaderboard Theo Harrison was fourth with 393 points and Eduard Lakatos finished in sixth place overall with 361 points.

Fellow mini performance player and tennis scholar Tillie Reid won the 10 and under Girls leaderboard with 747 points and teammate Nina Williams was third and Da Silva was fifth overall in this age group. The club had another winner in the 12 and under Girls leaderboard with another tennis scholar, Jasmin Bromilow taking the top spot with 322 points and Isla Hignett finishing as runner-up with 265 points. Harry Feast was third overall in the 12 & under Boys category with 177 points.

Not to be outdone by their younger sisters Miles Bromilow and Liam Hignett topped the 16 & Under Boys leaderboard. The two performance players and tennis scholars finished in first and second place, with Bromilow winning gold on 616 points and Hignett in the silver position with 552 points overall. Clubmate Alex Dawson was in fifth place with 262 points.

County competition Leaderboards show how well players are performing during the Winter and Summer seasons in a particular competition circuit. Leaderboards provide a great way for young players to track their progress just as the top players do on the ATP and WTA tours.

Reid Wins Compass Draw

Mini performance player and Sherfield Tennis scholar Tillie Reid won an event at the Thornden Grade 4 Tournament joining teammates Liam Hignett and Harry Feast on the Half Term winners podium.


Due to bad weather last Thursday, Reid’s event was moved from original event Thornden Tennis Club in Chandlers Ford to nearby indoor courts at Southampton. Playing in the 10 and under Girls Singles Grade 4 compass draw, Reid beat Emma Applebee 4-1 in the quarters, Grace Williams 4-2 in the semis and after losing the first set she won the tie-break against Martyna Clubiuck 4-5(3), 4-2, 10-6 on tie break against to win the event and collect the winners medal. Congrats Tillie!

Coach Jamie Jordan said, “Well done Tillie! Another excellent result and another medal for your growing collection.”

Support Isla’s Charity Snack Sale

If you are at Totally Tennis in the War Memorial Park come and support Mini Tennis Player Isla Hignett who is selling snacks (priced from a very reasonable 40p each) at the indoor centre to raise money for her school charity project “Grow A Pound Project’.


Last year, Hignett raised just under £50 selling snacks to raise money for a project at a school in Gambia. This year she is fundraising for four charities Jack’s Place (for Autism), Sebastian’s Action Trust which has The Bluebells facility in North Waltham, Guide Dogs for The Blind and a project at her own school, Great Binfields School.

Mini performance player Tillie Reid had an early Christmas gift of another silver medal after she finished in the runner-up spot at the Grade 5 South East Junior Tennis England Esher tournament. Playing in the 10 and under Girls singles event held in Cobham just before Christmas on the 22nd December, Reid was the won Group C beating Isla Holley 4-2 and Elle Wright 4-1. In the semi-final she defeated Alice Capsey 4-1 and then lost in the final to Group A winner Isbella Ganter 4-0.
