The Sherfield School Boys team, which consists of four Totally Tennis performance players, completed in the Team Tennis Schools National Championships Finals 2016-2017 (formerly known as the Glanville Cup) at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

The team of Liam Hignett, Miles Bromilow, Alex Dawson and Dean Cooper Kirby were playing in a tough field of the top sixteen teams in the country at the weekend long event. Unfortunately the boys were knocked out in the first round of the main draw by Cheam High School 8-4. Bromilow and Cooper Kirby both won their singles matches 4-1, 3-5, 1-0(6) and 4-2, 4-2 respectively but Hignett and Dawson lost, both pairings were beaten in the doubles.
The boys then competed in the consolation draw beating Queen Elizabeth School, Cumbria 10-0 followed by St.Peter’s RC High School 8-4 in the semis but then lost in the final against St Bede’s 8-2 with Bromilow the only player to win a match.
Top seeds Culford School A were the overall winners beating third seeds Reed’s School in the final 8-2. In the Girl’s event (formerly known as the Aberdare Cup) second seeds Talbot Heath School A beat top seeds Queenswood School in the final 8-4.
Totally Tennis performance players Isla Hignett and Tillie Reid competed in the Game, Set & Matchplay 14 and under Girls Grand Slam Series 2016 event held at the North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club in Oxfordshire.
In the main draw both girls lost in the quarter-finals, Hignett was beaten by Emily Bolton 4-2, 4-2 and Reid lost to Lilac Jerviston 5-3, 4-1. Undeterred both the girls who were competing in a higher age group then played in the consolation draw which Hignett won, she defeated Poppy Watkins in the semi final 4-1, 4-1 followed by in the final Bethan Oakley 4-0, 4-0 to win the event. Sherfield Tennis Scholar Reid finished fourth after losing in her semi-final match against Oakley 4-0, 4-0 and then Watkins 4-0, 4-1 .in the third/fourth place playoff.

The Rushbrook brothers, Jack and Harry both had a busy tennis weekend competing in different tournaments. On Saturday, older brother Jack competed in the 10 & under mixed singles event at the Grade 5 Kingsley Indoor Super Saturday Tournament held at Kingsley Dome in Borden, which was played in the compass draw format. In the quarter finals, Jack was beaten by Harry Blair in a very close match not reflected by the final score of 4-2 and Jack moved into the Consolation Draw. In the semi-finals Jack beat Andrew Penney 4-2 followed by Harry Morrogh in the Consolation final 4-2 to win the event.

On Sunday, both boys played in the Portsmouth Tennis Centre in a Grade 6 Red and Green Match Play tournament. Jack competed in the 10 and under mixed singles winning all four of his twenty minute matches beating Alice Turner-Hall 4-2, Axel Blakey 7-2, Katherine Gillett 5-1 and Thomas Phillips 6-0. In the 8 and mixed singles under, Harry won four and lost two matches. He defeated Isabelle Pycroft 10-6, Oliver Cole 11-9, Alfie Hand 10-7, Max Fitzgerald 10-6 and lost against James Millham in a close match 11-9 and Josef Gibson 10-3. With these results Harry has now progressed to a Red 2.
