TT Tour – October 2019

The latest Red and Orange TT Tour events took place last Saturday with Tobi Adeniran being crowned the Red winner and Ayush Thondapu claiming overall Orange victory.

956525df-d8b4-4134-83d4-a05e9e450ef7.jpgAdeniran won all his matches beating Shrihan Chakraborty, Freddie Stokes and Shrayan Subash all 10-4 respectively and Maximus Perez-Lockley 10-1. Chakraborty finished in the runner-up position defeating Perez-Lockley 10-3, Stokes 10-6 and Subash 10-5. Stokes was third overall, Subash fourth and Perez-Lockley was in fifth place.

5f4983ec-3506-4891-8385-16460d64b2a9Due to less entries in the Orange event the players all played each other twice. Thondapu beat Charlotte Salt 10-3 and 10-7 and Finley Chivers 10-6 but then lost against him in a close match 12-10. Chivers was runner-up after defeating Salt 10-5 and 10-3.

Head coach James Mcintosh said, “Well done to everyone that competed in the TT Tour, it was great to see some players competing for the first time.” he added, “The competition is designed to give the players in the squads an opportunity to compete in a fun environment. We look forward to seeing some more competitors at the next event on the 23rd November.

The TT Tour is a competition programme for Totally Tennis junior players with several tournaments held throughout the year.  An up-to-date leaderboard will show each player’s rankings in each group. Points are awarded to the winner, runner-up and third/fourth place players for each event as well as additional points for entering. See schedule below for full list of tournament dates.

September Squad Term

With the summer holidays now over it’s back to school and the return of the Totally Tennis Junior Squads which form part of the club’s junior programme coached by our team of LTA licensed coaches. Totally Tennis juniors squads are run throughout the year designed for children aged from four years upwards that start with mini tennis nets and sponge balls and work up to full sized courts and yellow balls. Every child is given an appropriate squad to join, usually guided by age.

Mini Development Squads (Under 10’s) include Pirates (4-6 years), Indians (6-8 years), Dodgers (8-9 years) and Giants (9-10 years). Development Squads (Over 10’s) include A, B and C squads are for older players aged eleven and over. Performance Squads include the invitational mini performance squads of Red, Orange and Green for talented players and Yellow squads are for older players in the U12 to U18 categories.

The 2018 autumn term started on 4th September and will run for sixteen weeks until Friday 20th December 2019 (sessions run throughout half term). There are Open Weeks held during the last week of term in March, July & December where parents are invited to watch their children’s progress during an on court session. Sessions take place at the indoor centre in the War Memorial Park as well as some sessions at Hampshire Court.

U10 Team Win the Aegon Team Tennis League

The Totally Tennis U10 team have won the Aegon Team Tennis Hampshire & IOW 2017 10&U Mixed Division league. The team of Oliver Alemany, Eddie Lakatos, Daniel Ward, Ollie Steer and Faith Tompkins were up against teams from David Lloyd Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth Tennis Academy.

They won their first match against David Lloyd Southampton 8-4 with Alemany, Lakatos and Ward all winning their singles to be 3-1 up and then Alemany/Lakatos securing overall victory by winning their doubles match 4-2, 4-2. Unfortunately Winchester then withdrew from the division so the deciding fixture was against Portsmouth Tennis Academy who had already beaten David Lloyd Southampton.
 In the fixture against Portsmouth Alemany and Lakatos both won their singles matches 4-0, 4-1 and Steer won 4-0, 4-0. In the doubles Tompkins/Steer won their three set match 4-2, 0-4, 1-0 to secure another 8 – 4 victory and win the league.

Head coach James Macintosh said, “Well Done to Oliver, Eddie Lakatos, Ward, Ollie and Tompkins who were all part of the team that won the division. It’s a fantastic achievement for all the players and we hope to continue to have more success in future team tennis events.

Tennis Foundation Primary Schools Roadshow

The Tennis Foundation, in conjunction with Totally Tennis, are visiting ten schools in Basingstoke this week to see over 1000 key stage 1 children and introduce them to playing tennis in fun short sessions. The week long roadshow will culminate in two FREE Tennis Open Days at the Indoor Centre this coming weekend (17th & 18th June – details below).
