Performance player and coach Liam Hignett won the Open Mens Doubles title at the Winchester MANTIS Open 2019 with partner William Coward earlier this week.
In the event held at the Winchester Racquets and Fitness the pair, who were top seeds, had a bye in the quarters top seeds and then beat William Farnfield and William Jones 6-2, 6-0 in the semi finals. In the finals Hignett and Coward defeated Andrew Gorvin and Dominic Pearson 3-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(6) to win the title.

Totally Tennis performance players Isla Hignett, Jasmin Bromilow and Tillie Reid were all part of the Hampshire & IOW team that played in the 14U County Cup 2018 National Finals held at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
Fellow Hampshire players Hannah Smith, Anna Vinnell and Martyna Ciubatiuk made up the team of six who had previously won the 14 and under Girls County Cup 2018 regional playoffs at the beginning of May. The girls travelled up to Nottingham to compete in the 3-day finals event from 18th – 20th May along with team captain Fiona and vice-captain Taz wearing team hoodies provided by Mantis Sport.
The Hampshire girls were competing in Box B against teams from Surrey, Avon and Lancashire. On the first day the girls faced second seeds Surrey in the morning fixture and lost 5-1 with only Smith managing to win her singles 7-5, 6-4. Things didn’t get much better in the afternoon with another 5-1 loss against Avon with the pairing of Ciubatiuk/Vinnell winning their three set doubles match 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.
On the second day the girls faced Lancashire and even though they had another loss it was a better 4-2 scoreline with Smith winning her singles 6-1, 6-0 and Hignett/Smith winning their doubles match 6-4, 6-4.
The team finished fourth in their box and on the last day they played the team from Leicestershire who finished fourth in Box A. The Hampshire girls won the match 4-2 overall with Smith, Bromilow and Vinnell all winning their singles matches and Smith/Vinnell winning their doubles 6-4, 6-4 to end on a positive note. The Hampshire team finished in seventh place overall and top seeds Middlesex were crowned the 2018 winners.

Totally Tennis performance player Liam Hignett, 17 competed in Aegon British Tour Bath in the Grade 1 Men’s Open Singles competition.
Eighth seed Hignett, who is a Sherfield School Tennis Scholar and sponsored by Mantis Sport
, played in the qualifying event last Monday. After a bye in the first round he then defeated Ben Battey 7-5, 6-4 in round two. The following day he played his third qualifying match losing against tenth seed Matthew Summers 6-3, 6-2 but still progressed to the main draw as a lucky loser.
He won his first main draw match against qualifer Michael Owen 6-4 6-3 but his luck ran out on the fourth day when he lost to sixth seed Sean Hodkin 6-2, 7-5. The event was won by second seed Luke Oakley.
