Consolation Medal for Dolman

Totally Tennis mini performance player Harry Dolman won the  9 & under singles consolation event at the East Winter County Tour held at David Lloyd Royal Berkshire.

In the main draw he lost in the first round to eventual runner-up Xavier Bailey 10-3 and then competed in the consolation draw where he defeated both Theo Lane and Arjun Tahiliani 10-7 and then beat Oscar Callaghan 10-5 in the final. He also played three extra matches which he won.

Coach Jordan Frederick said, “Harry is genuinely improving week in week out. In this event he beat a player that he recently lost to in the Red County Closed event so he’s making progress in his game.”

U9’s Team are Hampshire Division 1 Champions

The Totally Tennis 9 and under Team Tennis squad were crowned Division 1 Team Tennis Hampshire & IOW 2018 Mixed champions at the county tournament played in Portsmouth over the weekend. The boys beat all the four other teams, from Portsmouth Tennis Academy, Winchester Racquets and Fitness, Kingsley and Elite Tennis from David Lloyd Southampton, without dropping a single match.

Hayden Cummings, Nikesh Bomma and twins Gevin and Guhan Chendhilkumar travelled to Portsmouth Tennis Centre with coach Jamie Jordan and played some fantastic tennis to whitewash all their opponents 12 -0 and be declared the Division 1 league champions.

Cummings was number one seed, Gevin and Guhan number two and three respectively and Bomma, who was playing in his first ever tournament in this country after moving to the UK from India last September, was fourth seed.

Jordan said, “The boys were great representatives of Totally Tennis and played some amazing tennis, they made me and the club very proud.”

Performance players Isla Hignett and Tillie Reid won the 18 and under Girls doubles title at the Witney Open Junior Tennis Tournament 2018 held in Oxfordshire.

Liam Hignett and his partner Ryan Golesworthy (bottom left) won the Open Men’s Doubles title at the Winchester Spring Open 2018, Hignett as runner-up in the Men’s singles (top left).

Isla Hignett was runner-up in 18 & under Girls singles and Jasmin Bromilow was  runner-up in the 14 & under Girls singles (centre)

Totally Tennis 10 & Under Team Top The Tennis Hampshire & IOW 2018 League

The Totally Tennis 10 and under team are sitting at the top of Division 1 of the Team Tennis Hampshire & IOW 2018 league after winning both their first two home fixtures 12 – 0 against David Lloyd Southampton A and Kingsley.

In the first fixture the team of Hayden Cummings, Dylan Cooper Kirby and twin brothers Gevin and Guhan Chendhilkumar won all their singles matches; Cummings beat Karol Rzegocki 4-2, 4-0, Cooper Kirby beat Noah Flynn 4-2, 4-1 and Gevin and Guhan both won their matches 4-0, 4-0 against Alexander Roots and Evie Jaynes respectively. In the doubles Cummings/Cooper Kirby beat Rzegocki/Flynn 4-1, 4-2 and the twins didn’t lose a single game defeating Roots/Jaynes 4-0, 4-0.

In the Kingsley fixture, Cummings, Cooper Kirby and Guhan all won their singles matches with 4-0, 4-0 shorelines against Toby Rowe, Edward Goddard and Matthew Craig respectively. Gevin won his match against Jamie Craig 4-0, 4-1 to give the team a 4-0 lead going into the doubles. Cummings/Cooper Kirby then beat Rowe/Goddard 4-1, 4-0 and the Chendhilkumar brother beat the Craigs 4-0, 4-1 to give the team another fallout victory and retain there place at the top of the league.

The team have now played both their home fixtures and face two tough away matches against Portsmouth Tennis Academy (Sunday 20th May) and Winchester Racquets and Fitness (Sunday 17th June) to complete the series.

More Medals for Kirsty

Totally Tennis mini performance player Kirsty Da Silva has added two more gold medals to her ever growing collection. Da Silva picked up her first medial for winning the 10 and under Hampshire & Isle of Wight LTA County Leaderboard for the Winter season with 355 points, club mate Melissa Toner finished in fifth place with 75 points.

Kirsty double goldTop seed Da Silva then won her second medal competing in her first 12 and under tournament at the King’s College, Wimbledon Open tournament 2016 in London. The event was played in a round robin format and Da Silva won all of her three matches beating Alice O’Brien, Daniella Townsend and second seed Alisa Maletkovic to be declared the overall winner and receive the gold medal.

September New Squad Term

September is a busy time with schools going back and it’s also the start of a new squad term tomorrow at Totally Tennis. In the Junior Tennis Programme, there are lots of opportunities for children of all ages and abilities in the Under and Over 10’s with termly and pay-and-play sessions at the indoor centre in the War Memorial Park.

Termly Under 10’s Development Squads

Pirates (Mini Red Tennis)

This session is for beginners aged 4-6 years using sponge balls. Players work on co-ordination, basic racket skills and tennis shots.
Monday, Tuesday and Friday ~ 4:30-5:30pm

This session is for beginners or as a progression from Pirates for players aged 6-7 years. The ball is low-bouncing and players work on the basic shots to play tennis

Monday, Tuesday and Friday ~ 4:30-5:30pm

Dodgers (Orange Mini Tennis)

This is session is for beginners aged 7-9 years using a medium-bounce ball on a 3⁄4 sized tennis court and also a progression from Indians Squad.

Monday, Tuesday and Friday ~ 5:30-6:30pm

Giants sessions are for 9-11 year olds and provides the transition to full court tennis. This is also a progression from Dodgers Squad.

Termly Over 10’s Development Squads

C Squad

C squad is for players aged 10-16 years and is played with a yellow ball on a full size tennis court. This is aimed at beginners and improvers.

Wednesday ~ 4:30-6.00pm and Saturday 1:30-3:00pm

B Squad

This squad is also aimed at players aged 10-16 years and is played with a yellow ball on a full size tennis court. This is for intermediate players progressing from C squad.

Wednesday ~ 4:30-6:00pm, Thursday 6:00 -7:30pm and Saturday 12.30 – 2.00pm

A Squad

This is aimed at players aged 10-16 years and is played with a yellow ball on a full size tennis court. This is for intermediate/advanced players progressing from B squad.

Saturday ~ 11.00am -12:30pm

Girls Squad

This is aimed at girls aged 12-17 years and is played with a yellow ball on a full size tennis court.

Wednesday ~ 6:00 – 7:30pm

Junior Pay and Play Mini Tennis Sessions  (No Need to Book)

Munchkins (Mini Red Tennis)

This session is for beginners aged 4-9 years. The ball is sponge or low-bouncing and the players work on co-ordination, basic racket skills and basic tennis shots.

Saturday ~ 10:30-11:30am (£3.50 per child per session)

This session is for beginners aged 10-16 years. The ball is medium bouncing, and players work on basic shots to play the game.

Saturday ~11:30am – 12:30pm (£5.00 per child per session)

There are also Mini Performance and Performance Squads for talented players. The Red, Orange, Green and Yellow squads are by invitation only at the coaching teams digression. Eduard Edges out his Competitors

Totally Tennis Mini Performance player Eduard Lakatos won his first tournament at Kingsley Indoor Tennis Club. Lakatos, who only started playing in September, is a member of the Red Squad at Hampshire Court coached by Shyam Vithlani.

Kingsley 8 and under Mixed Champion Eduard Lakatos

Competing in the 8 and under Mixed Singles at the club in Bordon, Lakatos who was playing in Group B won two matches and lost two to qualify for the final stages. He beat Thomas Le Marchant 11-9 and Luka Williams 10-0 and was defeated by Evan Graham 11-9 and Lewin Myles 11-9. Over in Group A fellow mini performance player Theo Harrison, who plays in squads at the War Memorial Park, won three matches and lost one en route to the semifinals. Harrison defeated Bo Edwards 10-1, Bruno Crosble 11-9 and Lily Bebbington 10-3 but lost out to Honor Whittome 11-9.

Fourth place went to Theo Harrison.

In the semis, Lakatos beat Harrison 11-9 and then won in the final beating Whittome convincingly 10-4 to win his first event. Harrison finished in fourth after losing to Myles 12-10 in the third/fourth play off match.

Vithlani said of Lakatos success, “Well done to Eddie for winning his first tournament, he only started playing last summer and has come a long way since then.”
