Hignett played in the LTA British Tour Masters

Performance player and coach Liam Hignett was invited to compete in the LTA British Tour Masters held at the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton, London last week.

Hignett was one of the eight players who competed in the event. In the quarters he beat Michael Shaw  4-2 (retired) but was drawn against top seed Sean Hodkin in the semis and lost 6-2, 6-2. Hodkin went on to will the event. Hignett then played in the Tiebreak Tens competition beating Hodkin 10-8 and Joshua Rose 10-7.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) British Tour 2019* provides a circuit of tournaments designed to give up and coming players the opportunity to gain experience in their quest to become professional tennis players, to provide competition for professional players in between competing in professional events at home and abroad, as well as providing a national level open competition circuit.

Hignett invited to play at British Tour Masters 2019

Performance player and coach Liam Hignett has been invited by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to play at the British Tour Masters 2019 to be held the National Tennis Centre (NTC) in Roehampton, London next month.

Hignett has qualified for the two-day event, which will take place on 19th and 20th December, due to his final position on this year’s British Tour leaderboard. His invitation comes after his quarter final finish at LTA British Tour Edgbaston 2 earlier this month where he beat Philip Sikman 6-1, 6-1 in round one, Finley Cook in the second 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 but lost in the quarters in three sets to Harry Skinner 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.

Last month Hignett won the LTA British Tour Exeter Open Mens Singles title at the Exeter Tennis Centre, lost in the quarters in Glasgow and had a second round finish in Taunton.

British Tennis FAST4 Doubles Title for Liam

Totally Tennis performance player and coach Liam Hignett won the British Tour FAST4 Doubles title with partner Miles Mcdowall at the National Tennis Centre in London.

The pairing were top seeds in the Open Mens Doubles event winning all their matches to claim the title. After a bye in the first round they beat Andreas Whelan Merediz and
Kian Yazdi in the quarters  4-3(2), 4-1, Eliot Glaysher and Josh Reynolds 4-1, 4-2 in the semis and then defeated second seeds Alex Fox and Elliot Stevens in the final 4-1, 4-2.

Hignett also competed in the LTA British Tour in Nottingham where he went out in the first round in a three set match against qualifier James Davis 6-3, 4-6,6-0. Next up is the LTA British Tour Sutton on 11th August.

 

Tough Opponent for Hignett at NTC

Performance player and Sherfield School tennis scholar Liam Hignett competed in the National Tennis Centre Invitational Winter National Tour Finals held over the weekend at the NTC in London.

Hignett was competing in the 18 and under Boys singles event in the grade 1 competition but unluckily he came up against third seed (and eventual winner) Kai Maxted in the first round and lost 6-4, 6-3 despite an excellent performance.

He recently competed in the Mens Open Singles at the British Tour Bath held at the University of Bath but lost in the first round of the main draw to Luke Johnson 6-1, 6-3.

 

Tillie Wins Again

Mini performance player Tillie Reid won the Girls 14 and under event at GDT Slough tournament last weekend. After a bye in the quarter finals, Reid beat Kyla Haslett-Hawkins 4-2, 5-4(7) in the semis and then battled to defeat Alexandra Stoop in the final 4-2, 2-4, [10-3] and be declared the overall winner.

Sherfield School Tennis scholar Reid had more success when representing the school at The Independent Sporting Association (ISA) girls U13 at the National Tennis Centre where she won her event, both she and school were very proud!

Another Silver for Da Silva

Mini Performance player Kirsty Da Silva played in the 9 and under Girls singles event at the Grade 4 South East Winter County Tour held at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

In the round robin event, Da Silva won Group A after a tricky first three set match against Caterina Revelli 2-7, 7-4, 7-5 followed by two straight set wins against Emily Marriage 7-3, 7-3 and Dorothy Tyson 8-8, 9-7. In the semi-finals she defeated Kiah Martin 7-5, 7-5 but lost out to Imogen Haddad 7-3, 7-4 in the final to finish in the runners-up spot.

Kirsty’s mum Sue said “Kirsty played a great tournament, winning her box unbeaten, winning the semi in straight sets and played a strong final, with commitment to every shot, but was beaten by a more powerful opponent on the day.

In other news, mini Performance player Aaron Dawson was the winner of the Grade 4 Birchwood County Tour held at the Birchwood Leisure and Tennis complex in Warrington. Dawson won the 10 and Under Boys singles title after beating Oliver Critchley 4-1, 4-2 in the quarter finals, Alexander McDermott in the semi-finals 4-1, 4-1 and Dominik Larrinovic in the final 4-1, 4-0.
