Halloween victory for Dawson in Cheshire

Totally Tennis performance player Aaron Dawson won the 16 & under Boys singles title at the Birchwood Junior & Senior Open held at Birchwood Leisure & Tennis Complex in Cheshire on halloween.

img_3467.jpegAfter a bye in the first round, second seed Dawson beat Harry Lumb in the quarters 6-2, 6-0 and fourth seed James Ashworth in a three set semi-final match 7-6(4), 2-6, 1-0(7). In the final he defeated third seed Edward Appleyard (who defeated top seed Wemer Zimmermann in the semis) 6-4, 7-5 to win the title.

October Half Term 2019

The October half term is already rapidly approaching. Are you looking for healthy alternative for your children in the school holidays where they will have lots of fun and learn a new sport? Totally Tennis has just the answer, the Tennis and Multi-sport camps are the perfect to keep children active whilst having lots of fun, learn a new sport and making new friends.

Packed with opportunities to play tennis and other sports such as basketball, football, hockey and rounders,¬†the sessions will take place at the Indoor Centre in the War Memorial Park, Basingstoke. Camps will running all week from Monday 26th October to Friday 1st November from 9.00am ‚Äď 4.00pm (full day*) and bookable in various options (morning, afternoon and full-day).

Tennis camps are great fun and include lots of games and mini-competitions for both new and experienced players alike for all children aged four to fifteen years. It’s a safe environment with Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) fully qualified, licensed and experienced coaches and the centre has OFSTED accreditation.

October Half Term Results

Two of the young performance players were in action over the recent half term. Performance player Liam Hignett competed in the Grade 3 David Lloyd Southampton October Mens Open Tournament 2015. He won his first match against Florian Hagmann 6-2, 6-2 but then lost to eventual runner-up Thomas Pudney 5-7, 7-5, [10-7] in his second match.

Hignett then competed in the Grade 3¬†Sutton Tennis and Squash Club Autumn Open Tournament playing in the men’s event. In the first round he defeated Josiah Simmons 6-3, 6-1 and Kurt Burton¬†6-0, 6-1 in round two and then defeated number one seed¬†Tim Schoenert 6-4, 6-3 in the quarter-finals before¬†losing to eventual runner-up¬†David Brehme in a close match in the semi-finals 7-5, 5-7, 10-8. He finished off the week playing in the Grade 3¬†Well Place event held at Cheltenham Ladies College where he beat¬†Taylan Ozdemir 4-2, 4-0 in the quarters but lost in the semi-final against against the eventual runner-up¬†Freddie O’Brien 4-0, 4-2.

Like Hignett, mini performance players Kirsty Da Silva also played in the Grade 3¬†David Lloyd Southampton October Half Term Tournament competing in the 10 and under girls event. She lost a very close first round match in the main draw against¬†Emma Goodacre 4-2, 5-3, even though she played really well the end result didn’t go her way. She then won her remaining three matches in the consolation draw against Fern Ashton 4-2, 1-4, 10-7, Jazmin Lilley¬†4-1, 5-3 Jazmin Lilley and then won the final against Sophe Hunter 3-5, 4-0, 10-6 Sophie Hunter to finish as the winner.

Da Silva’s mum Sue said “All Kirsty’s matches were intense and close contests ‚Äď two of her matches went to three sets. This was by far her strongest performance in terms of intensity, power hitting and stamina ‚Äď her first match started at 10.30am and she came off court at the end of her last match at 7.30pm!!” she added ¬†“Although it was only a consolation draw, all the players were of a very good standard and Kirsty showed she could compete at a very high level!”
