Tennis Director Nigel Long said “Our coaches have been visiting Basingstoke schools for many years and have, over that time, given thousands of children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to try tennis and realise all the benefits that the sport can bring.”

The Totally Tennis schools programme has not only given children the opportunity to play tennis but also produced countless players and coaches over the years. Some of these players have represented their respective schools and the club in many competitions, even winning National titles. The club also runs curriculum and after school sessions as well as the annual schools tournaments at the indoor centre.

Tennis Open Day

Head Coach James McIntosh and the Totally Tennis coaching team were out and about last week visiting local schools in the Basingstoke area giving pupils an exciting opportunity to try tennis. The mini tennis taster sessions were delivered in nine schools and over the five days the coaches saw 1,135 children in total at Great Binfields Primary, Manor Field, Kempshott Juniors, Sherborne St John, St. Mary’s Juniors, Winklebury Infants and Juniors, Fairfields and North Waltham.

Every child seen at the schools was presented with a certificate of participation and an invitation to attend a free Open Day that took place at the indoor centre on Saturday. Lots of children attended the fun two-hour open day session and got to put into practice what they have learnt at school on real tennis courts.

Tennis Director Nigel Long said, “Thanks to the whole TT team for all their hard work in making the Schools Roadshow and the open day such a success.” he added, “We are thrilled to have seen over a thousand children throughout the week and at the open day, I hope the events have encouraged them to take up our fabulous sport!!
