Totally Tennis Retain Their Unbeaten Record in the Festival of Sport 2019

This year’s annual Festival of Sport, organised by the Basingstoke Voluntary Sports Council,  against twin town Euskirchen took place over weekend in Basingstoke in the sun. Totally Tennis were defending their unbeaten record in the festival and they were successful again this year winning 13 – 1.

Jasmin Bromilow, Tillie Reid, Josh Furneaux, Charlie Mackenzie, Tinuke, Dylan Hall Jones, Ollie Brown, Nathan Dolman and brother Harry and Alex Feast represented the club on home soil at the Indoor Centre in the War Memorial Park. Euskirchen Tennis Club was represented by eleven players Lupo Alexis, Schatz Bastian, Hanna Friese, Alex Heyne, David Caspers, Henri Feuser, Johannes Püllen, Marie Schneider
Eva Heyne and siblings Justus and Amrei Lingscheidt travelled over from Germany with the rest of the competitors for the weekend event.

Head Coach James McIntosh said, “Another successful year for Totally Tennis in the Festival of Sport as we retained our unbeaten run. All of the kids that have previously been involved with the festival had a great time and got to meet up with their German friends.”

There were also a few players that took part in the festival for the first time who enjoyed themselves and are already looking forward to next year’s trip to Euskirchen. Thanks to all the parents that hosted and to the Basingstoke Voluntary Sports Council that organise the annual event.”

Results were a draw for Basingstoke Academy of Dance and along with Totally Tennis’ victory in the tennis competition there were wins for Basingstoke & Mid Hants Athletics, St Mary’s School Rounders team, Challoner School Tennis, Sherborne St John U11 & U14 Football and Summit & AWE Judo. Euskirchen beat Vyne School at Rounders whilst the Euskirchen Civic Party won their event event against the Basingstoke Mayor’s team.

Basingstoke won 22-7 overall and retained the trophy which they will defend in Germany next June.

Totally Tennis Maintain Unbeaten Record in Euskirchen

The annual Festival of Sport took place in Basingstoke’s Twin Town Euskirchen last week and a team of Totally Tennis junior players travelled to Germany to defend the club’s unbeaten record in the competition.

The team, who were representing both the club and Basingstoke in the annual sporting competition organised by the Basingstoke Sports Council, were just some of the nearly two hundred representatives that made the trip over to the twin town this year to compete in a variety of sports.

The tennis team of Harry Fest, Ollie Brown, Josh Furneaux, Dylan Hall-Jones, Isla Hignett, Jasmin Bromilow, Tillie Reid, Kirsty Da Silva, Amberly Chapman and Tinuke Adelakun  travelled with head coach James Macintosh to compete in the event which was celebrating its 26th year of competition . The group arrived on Thursday morning and had a day out at the theme park Phantasialand before meeting their host families who they stayed with for the weekend.

On Friday morning the players had a training session on the clay courts at Rotweiss Tennis followed by an afternoon of social events and a BBQ. The tennis competition was held on Saturday with Totally Tennis maintaining their unbeaten record in the competition winning a convincing 14 – 0 overall. In the singles, Ollie won 6 – 4, Josh 6-3 and 6 – 1, Dylan 6 – 4, Tinuke 6 – 1, Harry 6 – 3, Kirsty  6 – 1, James 6 – 0 and 6 – 1 and Isla 6 – 0. In the doubles Amberly/Kirsty won 6 – 0 and 6 – 2, Tillie/Tinuke 6 – 0 and Dylan/Amberly 6 – 2.

The four-day annual event, organised by Kevin Laing from the Basingstoke Voluntary Sports Council, included training and competition in a variety of sports culminating in the final presentation on Saturday evening. Basingstoke claimed overall victory beating Eurskichen 26 – 8 to be declared the 2018 Festival of Sport winners.

Each year sports teams from Basingstoke and Euskirchen meet for the sporting event on an annual reciprocal hosting basis and each sport competes against each other with the overall scores deciding which town wins the overall trophy. The other teams competing were Basingstoke Academy of Dance, Basingstoke & Mid Hants Athletics Club, Summit and AWE Judo Clubs, the Vyne Secondary School, Sherborne St John Boys U12 and U14 Football Club, Bishop Challoner Secondary School, St Mary’s Junior School and Basingstoke Volleyball Club.

Euskirchen Festival of Sport 2016

This year’s Festival of Sport took place in Basingstoke’s Twin Town Euskirchen last week and some of the Totally Tennis junior players were part of the team that represented the town in the annual sporting competition.

Liam Hignett, Miles Bromilow, Alex Dawson, Andrew Dingwall, Harry Fest, Ollie Brown, Isla Hignett, Jasmin Bromilow and Tillie Reid travelled to Germany with head coach James Macintosh to compete in the event which was celebrating its 24th year of competition . The group arrived onThursday morning and had a day out at the theme park Phantasialand before meeting their weekend host families.

On Friday morning the players had a training session at Rotweiss Tennis Club where they played on the clay courts, a new experience for some of the players. Friday afternoon was a social event at a natural outdoor lake where the players enjoyed swimming, diving boards, a trampoline in the lake and beach volleyball followed by a BBQ at the organisers house in the evening.
The tennis competition was held on Saturday with Totally Tennis maintaining their unbeaten record in the competition winning 13 – 6 overall. In the singles Ollie beat Moritz 6-0, Liam beat Max 6-0, Miles beat Hendrik 6-0, Harry beat Moritz 6-0, James beat Paul 6-0, Tillie beat Eva 6-0, Alex beat Johannes 6-0, Ollie beat Eric 6-2 and Harry beat Eric 6-0 but Isla lost to Miriam 2-6, Tillie lost to Hannah 1-6 and Andrew lost to Hendrik 1-6.
In the Doubles Alex & Andrew beat Johannes & Alex 6-3, brother and sister Liam & Isla beat Hendrik & Miriam 6-3, Isla & Tillie lost to Max & Hendrik 2-6, Isla & Jas lost to Johannes & Hendrik 2-6 and a second brother and sister combo Miles & Jas lost to Johannes & Hannah 1-6 which gave the Basingstoke team the outright win.

Macintosh said, “Overall the weekend was a great success, all of the players enjoyed their trip, not only experiencing playing on the German clay courts but also enjoying all the social events and making new friends.” he added “For Harry, Ollie, Isla, Jas and Tillie it was their first trip to Germany and they would love to do it again in two years time.”
