Senior Title in Amsterdam for Elvira and Jill

Totally Tennis 50+ players Elvira Olbrich and Jill Vaughan won the Senior 65+ Womens Doubles title at last weeks ITF Amsterdam Senior International Open.

The ladies won their title on the clay courts at Tennis Centre De Kegel beating German pairing Rotraud Ehm and Johanna Zillies 6-3, 4-6, 10-3 and Dutch duo Marjo Gruisen and Ria Van Dijk-van Miltenburg 1-6, 7-5, 10-7.

4D6815ED-620C-4944-AED5-677B4012AD91In the Mixed Doubles, Olbrich and partner Leo Coene beat Lyneke De Koning and Joep Lievers (Netherlands) 7-5, 6-0 in the quarters followed by a walkover in the semis. The pair finished as runners-up after losing to another Dutch pairing, Thea Rietveld-Esser and Rob Meuwese in the final 6-0, 6-2.

Not All Plain Sailing For The Hampshire Court Ladies

The Hampshire Court Ladies Vets team have had a couple of defeats in their latest matches in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Babolat Veterans 40+ Summer League after a previous run of good results.

In the home fixture against Winchester they lost 3-1 (39-34) overall. Sally Clackett and Julie Frankland recorded a scoreline of 6-1, 4-6, (7-10) then 6-0. 6-2. Lesley Miotto and new addition to the team Tina Wood won 7-5, lost the second set 6-4 and lost in the tie-break 11-9 and in the second match they lost 6-3, 6-3

Motto said, “Had we won even one of the two tie-breaks we would have won the match and Tina and I were even up 7-4 during the tiebreak

At the Virgin Active, Hants Club in Southampton the ladies played on the indoor carpet surface losing 4-0 (49-24) overall to the team that were Divison One winners last season. Bev Cleaver and Sandie Benham were defeated 6-3. 7-5 and then 6-3, 6-4. Miotto and Wood also lost 6-4, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0.

They then lost at Riverside 4-0 (48 – 25 games) with Frankland and Elaine Whitham losing three sets and winning one 2-6,1-6; 6-7, 6-3, (7-10) and Benham and Cleaver recording a similar result 1-6, 1-6: 1-6, 7-6, (6-10). They then faced Winchester again away in their latest fixture in Winchester, losing against an on form opposition.

Another Win For Hampshire Court Ladies Vets Team

The Hampshire Court Ladies Vets team recorded another win in their latest Hampshire and Isle of Wight Babolat Veterans 40+ Summer League match beating the team from Riverside, Salisbury 4-0 in the Division 1 home fixture. Sandie Benham and Sally Cackett won all their matches 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-3 and Julie Frankland and Bev Cleaver won 6-2, 6-1 and then 6-2, 4-6, (10-5).

One Victory and One Loss for the Ladies

The Hampshire Court Ladies Vets team beat the ladies from Virgin Active Hampshire Club team, Southampton who were 2014 Division 1 winners on home soil in a surprising but resounding victory in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Babolat Veterans 40+ Summer League. The team of Julie Frankland, Bev Cleaver, Sally Cackett and Elaine Whitham won 6-3 overall (43 games to 33). Frankland/Cleaver results were 4–6, 7–5, (13 – 11) and then 6-1, 7-5 and after losing their first match 6-4, 6-2 Cackett/Whitham won the second 6-3, 6-1

The winning streak didn’t continue as the team of Cackett/Whitham and ChrisTudor/Lesley Miotto lost their away match last week against Milford-on-Sea by six games. Hackett/Whitham won 6-2, 6-3 and then 6-4, 6-4 but Tudor/Miotto lost 6-2, 6-3 and then 6-2, 6-0 although most games did go to deuce!

The ladies will be back in action this Thursday (14th May) with a home fixture against the Riverside team from Salisbury. Good Luck Ladies 😉

Hampshire Court Ladies Back In Action

The Hampshire Court Ladies team were back in action in their first match of this season’s Hampshire and Isle of Wight Babolat Veterans 40+ Summer League. Playing in Division 1, the ladies faced tough competition in their first away fixture against the ladies from West Hants Club in Bournemouth, playing on the South Coast’s club distinctive green clay courts.

The team of Julie Frankland, Sandie Benham, Lesley Miotto and Penny Luke were beaten by the stronger opposition who have won the Division 1 league several times, but the the ladies enjoyed the fixture which had lots of good rallies and was played on a beautiful sunny evening. Frankland and Benham lost 6-0, 6-7, (10-5) in their first match, then 6 -1, 6-0 in the second
Luke and Miotto lost 6-2, 6-1, then 6-1, 6-0. Their next fixture is tomorrow evening (30th April) on home territory at Hampshire Court against the ladies from Virgin Active Hants Club, Southampton.

The competition is fierce in the league and every team face each twice in both a home and an away fixture in each division. Each team consists of four players with each doubles pair playing a total of four sets, and if the result is even then 10-point tie-breakers decide the outcome.
