World Tennis News: Djokovic Wins 50th Career Title

World number one Novak Djokovic recovered from a second-set lost against Roger Federer to win the BNP Paribas Open final 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2 at Indian Wells, California. This latest win gave Djokovic his 50th career title and his fourth Indian Wells title, firmly cementing his place in the number one spot in the world.

_81834578_novak_djokovic_getty2Djokovic had earlier ended British number one Andy Murray’s Indian Wells campaign in the semi-finals winning the match in just under ninety minutes 6-2, 6-3 and gibing him his sixth successive victory over Murray. In the second semi-final Federer defeated Milos Raonic 7-5, 6-4.

Over in the WTA ladies event, world number three Simona Halep from Romania won the title beating 2010 Indian Wells champion Jelena Jankovic in a thrilling three sets 2-6, 7-5, 6-4.

In other news, world number three Rafael Nadal has announced that he will play at the Aegon Championships at Queen’s Club for the first time since 2011. The 28-year-old Spanish player won the Queen’s event in 2008. He will join Murray, US Open champion Marin Cilic, defending champion Grigor Dimitrov and 2014 Australian winner Stan Wawrinka in the event which serves as a grass court warm up ahead of Wimbledon.
