As the world’s top players prepared for the second Grand Slam of the professional tennis calendar, The French Open in Paris our very own junior players at Totally Tennis competed in their own TT Tour French Open held at the indoor centre over the weekend.
Three events took place Red, Orange and Green with proceedings run by coach Nick Dingwall. The winners all picked up the Grand Slam maximum points towards their already accrued leaderboard points scores. Dylan Cooper Kirby was declared winner in the Red event with Megan Fisher as runner-up, Henry Terry in third and Sophie Barlow finishing fourth.
Winner of last months TT Tour The Sony open Orange event Hayden Cummings kept up his winning streak with another victory at this event with runner-up Daniel Ward also retaining his Sony Open position of runner-up. Faith Tompkins was third, Carmen Visuals fourth, Dinobi Okafor fifth and Dihiyah Khan finished in sixth place.
The Green event followed suit with Chi Chi Okafor collecting the winner’s title again this month, sister Fechi was runner-up, Jack Moria finished in third, Tinuke Adelakun and Mikun Adeniran were fourth and fifth respectively, Zarieh Shaw was sixth and Diego Visuals finished in seventh.
Dingwall said of the event, “It was a great turn out for the French Open event, congratulations to everyone who participated, it was good to see all the players continuing to learn the format of the matches and enjoying the tennis games too.” he added “Well done to Dylan, Hayden and Chi Chi for winning the various categories, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the next TT Tour Grand Slam event, Wimbledon in June.”
The Totally Tennis Tour is for Development Squads and Mini Performance Squads players. There are six tournaments throughout the year and then the Grand Final where the top eight players from each squad will be invited back to play for the chance to finish as the club champions. There will be an up to date leaderboard showing players rankings in each squad. Points are awarded to the winner, runner-up and third/fourth place players for each event as well as for entering. The Grand Slam events of the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open offer higher points and all points will be added to each age group leaderboard.
