Da Silva Shins at the County Championships | 2022

Totally Tennis assistant coach and performance player Kirsty Da Silva had a great week at this year’s Hampshire & IOW County Championships 2022 held this week at Winchester Racquets and Fitness.

In the 18 & under Girls Doubles, top seeds Da Silva and her partner Poppy Marston were crowned champions after playing some great matches. After a bye in the quarters, they defeated Lily Bebbington and Harriet Burley in the semis 4-2, 4-3 and then beat Victoria Ernsberger and Katie Hart convincingly in the final 4-1, 4-2 to win the title.

In the Women’s Doubles, Da Silva and Marston were runners-up after losing in the final to Scarlett Doman & Ivana Maynard 6-4, 6-0. On their way to the final, the pair had a bye in the quarters and then defeated Ernsberger and Mia Zhoub in a three-set semi-final battle 2-6, 6-4, 11-9.

In the Women’s Singles, Da Silva beat Hart in round one 7-5, 6-3 before losing to top seed Ivana Maynard in the quarter finals 6-2, 6-2. She also competed in the 18 & under Girls Singles where after a bye in round one she beat Stefania Flavia Zamfir in the quarters 6-1, 6-2 but lost out again to Maynard in the semis 6-2, 6-2.

Another Doubles Title for Isla and Tillie

Performance player Isla Hignett and Tillie Reid won the 18 and under Girls Doubles title at the White Horse Indoor Junior Winter Tennis Tournament held in Oxford.

In the round robin event the pair beat  Lola-Juliet Omran and Youka Togashi 4-1, 4-3(3) and Kirsty Da Silva and Darcy Herring Johnson 4-1, 4-1 to win the event.

The girls will return to the White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre in the New Year to compete in the 18 and under Girls Singles on the 4th January where Hignett is second seed and Reid is fourth.

Tennis Talk: Jamie Murray Scoops Doubles Title at Queen’s

When Andy, his younger brother and defending champion, got knocked out in a shock first round defeat it was left to Jamie Murray to win a trophy at this year’s Aegon Championships held at The Queen’s Club in London.

2017-aegon-championships-murray-soares-final-800x300-gettyMurray and partner Bruno Soares lift the doubles trophy on Sunday after beating French duo Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-2, 6-3 in the final. Not only was it a great victory but one for the history books too as Murray the first British man to win the Aegon Championships doubles title since Jeremy Bates back in 1990.

The final was the pair’s second match on Sunday after they first won an unfinished semi final clash that was previously interrupted due to rain against Marin Cilic and his partner Marcin Matkowski 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Singles champion was Feliciano Lopez, 35 who became the tournament’s oldest winner in the Open Era beating fourth seed Cilic 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(8) with a crowd thrilling final set on Centre Court. Top seed Andy Murray, second seed Stan Wawrinka and Milos Raonic ranked third all made unpredicted early exits from the tournament.

World Tennis News: Jamie Murray Wins US Open Doubles Title

The final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open is finishing today with the Men’s singles final taking place at Flushing Meadows, New York on the day the city honours those who lost their lives in 9/11.

British doubles number one Jamie Murray made history yesterday becoming the first British man for forty four  years to win the US Open doubles title with his partner Bruno Soares from Brazil. Fourth seeds Murray and Soares, who won the Australian Open in January, won their second Grand Slam title after beating unseeded pairing Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez from Spain in the final 6-2, 6-3.

British number one, world number two and double Olympic gold medal winner Andy Murray did not fare quite so well as his brother after being knocked out in the quarter finals. Second seed Murray, who won the event in 2012, was hoping to add the US Open title to his Wimbledon title but he made his earliest Grand Slam exit of 2016 after being defeated by Kei Nishikori from Japan in five sets 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic will play third seed Stan Wawrinka in tonight’s final. Djokovic will be hoping to win his third US Open and thirteenth Grand Slam while opponent Wawrinka is aiming for his third Grand Slam trophy and his first title in New York.

In other British Tennis news, twenty-one year old Kyle Edmund defeated two seeds to reach the last sixteen of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in his career before being stopped in his tracks by defending champion Djokovic 6-2, 6-1, 6-4.

In the women’s event Angelique Kerber from Germany beat Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic in the final 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to win the title adding to her Australian Open Grand Slam win at the start of this year. Defending champion Serena Williams was defeated in the semis by Pliskova.

British number one and thirteenth seed Johanna Konta was knocked out after reaching the last sixteen by Anastasia Sevastova from Latvia 6-4, 7-5. In round one she defeated Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3, 6-3 followed by Tsvetana Pironkova 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 and Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-1. Heather Watson lost in the first round against Richèl Hogenkamp 6-2, 7-5
