Fundraising Pub Quiz

Join the Totally Tennis team at the fundraising pub quiz on Friday 6th December at The Queen’s College Arms in Pamber End, Tadley.

Pit your wits against your fellow players to be crowned the winning team. All proceeds from the quiz and raffle will go towards purchasing a defibrillator for the indoor centre.

Coach Steph, who is organising the event said, “We want to get a defibrillator for the courts due to the increased number of people playing and because so many people exercise in the park itself.”

Time: 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm)

Cost: £20 per person (includes dinner)

Team: Maximum of 6 players per team

Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at Totally Tennis on Friday 29th September

Totally Tennis will be hosting their annual Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 29th September at the Mixed Morning Tennis session from 10:00am to 11.30am.

Regular players are encouraged to bring their friends and enjoy the tennis session from 10:00 that will be followed by coffee and cake (non-players are welcomed for coffee and cake too) at 11:30am to support the charity that helps people facing cancer and their families. Coffee and cake will also be served in the pavilion from 4:30pm during junior squads. Any budding bakers wishing to bake and donate a cake to the event will be greatly appreciated.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in association with M & S is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. People all over the UK host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan, in 2016 £29.5 million was raised and this year they are aiming to raise even more.

TT Tour 2017

The TT Tour is back for 2017 and kicks off this Sunday (12th February) with the Australian Open event to be held at Totally Tennis’ Indoor Centre in the War Memorial Park, Basingstoke.

The Totally Tennis Tour is for Development Squads and Mini Performance Squads players who get the opportunity to compete in seven tournaments throughout the year. The top eight players from each squad will be invited back to play in the Grand Final’s in November for the chance to finish as the club champions. Leaderboard’s will show players rankings in each squad and points will be awarded to the winner, runner-up and third/fourth place players for each event as well as points for entering.

The Grand Slam events of the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open offer higher points of 1,000 and or the winners 500 for the runners-up. All other events give the winners 250 points, 125 for second place and 75 for third/fourth places, every player gets 100 points for all events they enter, each age group leaderboard will be updated after each tournament.

ITV’s Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day

Totally Tennis will be taking part in ITV’s Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 18th December, with 100% of donations will go to Macmillan Cancer Support , Make a Wish Uk and Save the Children.

Everyone coming to Ladies Morning and Squads on that day will be asked to don their best Christmas Jumper and donate, of course the coaches will be wearing their best festive woolies too.

Text Santa is a charity initiative set up in 2011 by ITV to support UK-based charities during the Christmas period. The appeal to the public is to donate money mainly via text donation. On Friday 18 December, whether you’re at school, at work or with your friends, wear your Christmas jumper with pride, and make your woolly worthy by donating to the cause. In the evening, ITV will be holding a three-hour Christmas charity appeal spectacular while entertaining the nation and asking for help in giving hope this Christmas to families in difficulty.

ITV are supporting the work of Macmillan Cancer SupportMake-A-Wish UK and Save the Children. From helping those affected by crises, to granting wishes to children fighting life-threatening conditions, to funding nurses so those with cancer get the care they need, Text Santa will give hope to families in the UK and overseas.

Great British Tennis Weekend 2015 in Pictures

A sunny afternoon was the perfect setting for this years Great British Tennis Weekend (GBTW) event at Totally Tennis’ last Saturday, where approximately fifty people of all ages and abilities were welcomed to pick up a racket and play tennis for free on both the indoor and outdoor courts in the War Memorial Park.

Lots of families were on court enjoying the fun and games aided by the team of coaches. Young players enjoyed the free balloons, wristbands and face painting. Cakes, teas and ice creams were also sold at the community event.

Tennis Director Nigel Long said ”It was great to see so many new players as well as some of our regulars. We hope they enjoyed themselves and will return to join some sessions in our programme here at the indoor centre.”

The GBTW scheme is designed to get people outdoors and trying tennis for free this summer at various locations countrywide on three weekends 16th & 17th May, 13th & 14th June and 1st & 2nd August. Thousands of free events will be taking place across the country for the whole family and will offer players the chance to experience Highland Spring Mini Tennis, Cardio Tennis, coaching and relaxed free play visit www.clubspark.lta.org.uk for more information.

Davis Cup Day at Totally Tennis

Two former British Davis Cup players, Jamie Baker and Danny Sapsford visited the indoor centre on Saturday to offer coaching sessions for juniors and adults and then teamed up with two of the coaches in an Exhibition Match. Sapsford (pink top) played in two Davis Cup ties for Great Britain in 1990-1991, amassing a 2-1 record and Baker (green t-shirt) made his debut for the team in September 2006 in the crucial relegation play-off against the Ukraine where the British team won the tie 3–2.

IMG_0132There was an excellent turn out for the event held at the indoor centre, with lots of players and forty or so spectators in attendance. Seventeen mini players (aged from six to ten) were first up in their coaching session followed by twelve older juniors (aged ten-sixteen) and then finally seventeen adult players. In the adult session the players worked on approaching the net in doubles and in the invitational adult session the players worked on intercepting volleys and moving forward.

IMG_0137Alongside the tennis there was lots of activities including a Speed Gun Challenge, a Raffle with a chance to get involved and play some points with the professionals and a selection of homemade cakes and refreshments.

Winners of the raffle to play with the professionals was mini performance players Kirsty Da Silva and Tillie Reid who represented the juniors playing with Baker and Sapsford respectively. Adult players Tim Rice and Rex Groves had the honour for the adults, playing a tie-break which Baker/Rice won 8-6 on a lucky last net cord shot much to the opposition and crowds disbelief!IMG_0498

In the exhibition match, coach and performance player Ali Olrog teamed up with Baker to beat Head Coach James McIntosh and Sapsford 6-4. McIntosh said after the match, “I would like more practice on returning Jamie Baker’s kick serve to my backhand!

Former Davis Cup Players Coming to Totally Tennis

In exciting news Totally Tennis are pleased to announce that two British former Davis Cup players, Jamie Baker and Danny Sapsford will be visiting the indoor centre on Saturday 28th March. Both players will be offering coaching in different sessions and will then will play an Exhibition Match with two of our coaches! (coaches names to be revealed later…….)

Rushbrook Results

The Rushbrook brothers, Jack and Harry both had a busy tennis weekend competing in different tournaments. On Saturday, older brother Jack competed in the 10 & under mixed singles event at the Grade 5 Kingsley Indoor Super Saturday Tournament held at Kingsley Dome in Borden, which was played in the compass draw format. In the quarter finals, Jack was beaten by Harry Blair in a very close match not reflected by the final score of 4-2 and Jack moved into the Consolation Draw. In the semi-finals Jack beat Andrew Penney 4-2 followed by Harry Morrogh in the Consolation final 4-2 to win the event. IMG_1870

On Sunday, both boys played in the Portsmouth Tennis Centre in a Grade 6 Red and Green Match Play tournament. Jack competed in the 10 and under mixed singles winning all four of his twenty minute matches beating Alice Turner-Hall 4-2, Axel Blakey 7-2, Katherine Gillett 5-1 and Thomas Phillips 6-0. In the 8 and mixed singles under, Harry won four and lost two matches. He defeated Isabelle Pycroft 10-6, Oliver Cole 11-9, Alfie Hand 10-7, Max Fitzgerald 10-6 and lost against James Millham in a close match 11-9 and Josef Gibson 10-3. With these results Harry has now progressed to a Red 2.
